Implementation Summary: Issues #843-846 (Stellar Wave)

Overview

This PR implements four critical frontend features for the Nova Rewards platform, addressing wallet connection, notifications, merchant dashboard, and empty state UX improvements.

Issues Addressed

Issue #843: Build Merchant Dashboard Overview Page (HIGH Priority)

Status: ✅ COMPLETE

Acceptance Criteria Met:

  • ✅ Page displays total active campaigns, total tokens issued, and total redemptions
  • ✅ Campaign list shows status, progress, and links to campaign detail page
  • ✅ All stats are fetched in parallel using Promise.all() to minimize load time
  • ✅ Page is accessible and renders correctly on tablet and desktop
  • ✅ Empty state is shown when merchant has no campaigns

Implementation Details:

  • Location: novaRewards/frontend/pages/merchant-dashboard.js
  • Uses KpiCards component to display key metrics
  • Uses CampaignList component with pause/resume actions
  • Implements auto-refresh every 60 seconds
  • Parallel data fetching with Promise.all([fetchMerchantKpis, fetchDailyIssuance, fetchMerchantCampaigns])
  • Enhanced CampaignList to show empty state with primary CTA

Key Features:

  • Real-time KPI updates (total issued, redeemed, active users, campaign count)
  • Daily reward issuance chart using Recharts
  • Campaign management with pause/resume functionality
  • Date range picker for filtering data
  • Manual refresh button with loading state
  • Error handling with retry mechanism

Issue #844: Implement Notification Bell with Unread Count Badge (MEDIUM Priority)

Status: ✅ COMPLETE

Acceptance Criteria Met:

  • ✅ Bell icon shows badge with unread count (capped at 99+)
  • ✅ Clicking bell opens dropdown listing 10 most recent notifications
  • ✅ Notifications are marked as read when dropdown is opened
  • ✅ Badge disappears when all notifications are read
  • ✅ Dropdown is keyboard navigable and closes on Escape

Implementation Details:

  • Location: novaRewards/frontend/components/NotificationBell.tsx
  • Integrated into: novaRewards/frontend/components/layout/Header.js
  • Uses useNotifications() hook from NotificationContext
  • Fully TypeScript with proper type safety

Key Features:

  • Unread count badge (99+ cap)
  • Dropdown with 10 most recent notifications
  • Archive and dismiss individual notifications
  • Empty state when no notifications
  • Keyboard navigation (Escape to close)
  • Click-outside detection
  • Fully accessible with ARIA labels
  • Dark mode support
  • Responsive design

Issue #845: Add Freighter Wallet Connection Flow (CRITICAL Priority)

Status: ✅ COMPLETE (Already Implemented)

Acceptance Criteria Met:

  • ✅ Clicking "Connect Wallet" triggers Freighter permission prompt
  • ✅ Connected state shows truncated public key in header
  • ✅ Disconnecting clears session and returns to unauthenticated state
  • ✅ If Freighter is not installed, modal links to installation page
  • ✅ Wallet address is persisted in auth session after connection

Implementation Details:

  • Location: novaRewards/frontend/store/walletStore.js (Zustand store)
  • Components: WalletConnectButton.js, WalletConnectFlow.js, FreighterInstallModal.tsx
  • Library: novaRewards/frontend/lib/freighter.ts

  • Freighter wallet detection and connection
  • Public key persistence in localStorage
  • Network mismatch detection
  • User-friendly error messages
  • Balance refresh on connection
  • Transaction history tracking
  • Automatic rehydration on page load
  • Full TypeScript support

Issue #846: Build Empty State Illustrations for Zero-Data Views (LOW Priority)

Status: ✅ COMPLETE

Acceptance Criteria Met:

  • ✅ Each empty state has relevant illustration, heading, and body copy
  • ✅ Primary CTA button included where clear next action exists
  • ✅ Empty states visually distinct from loading and error states
  • ✅ Illustrations are SVGs and do not add more than 10KB per page
  • ✅ Empty states tested with Storybook story

Implementation Details:

  • Location: novaRewards/frontend/components/EmptyState.js
  • Storybook Story: novaRewards/frontend/stories/EmptyState.stories.jsx

Key Features:

  • 6 optimized SVG illustrations (2-4KB each):
    • inbox: Mail/message icon
    • rewards: Gift/coin icon
    • transactions: Document/list icon
    • campaigns: Chart/graph icon
    • notifications: Bell icon
    • search: Magnifying glass icon
  • 4 visual variants: default, primary, success, warning
  • Responsive design
  • Dark mode support
  • Accessible with ARIA labels
  • Optional custom illustration support
  • Primary CTA button with action handler

  • Test all 6 icon types
  • Test all 4 variants (default, primary, success, warning)
  • Verify CTA button works on campaign list empty state
  • Test on mobile and desktop
  • Verify SVG illustrations load correctly
  • Check file sizes are under 10KB

Performance Considerations

Optimization Techniques

  • ✅ Parallel API calls with Promise.all()
  • ✅ Dynamic imports for heavy components (Recharts)
  • ✅ Optimized SVG illustrations (<5KB each)
  • ✅ Lazy loading of notifications
  • ✅ Memoization of expensive computations
  • ✅ Efficient state management with Zustand

Bundle Size Impact

  • NotificationBell.tsx: ~3KB
  • EmptyState enhancements: ~2KB
  • SVG illustrations: ~12KB total (6 icons × 2KB avg)
  • Total addition: ~17KB (minimal impact)

  • ✅ Safari 14+
  • ✅ Mobile browsers (iOS Safari, Chrome Mobile)

No new environment variables required. Uses existing:

  • NEXT_PUBLIC_STELLAR_NETWORK

  • NEXT_PUBLIC_API_URL

No database migrations required.
