We — the members, contributors, and leaders of the CodeChef PESUECC Chapter — pledge to make participation in our community a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, visible or invisible disability, ethnicity, sex characteristics, gender identity and expression, level of experience, education, socio-economic status, nationality, personal appearance, race, caste, religion, branch, batch year, or competitive-programming skill level.
We pledge to act and interact in ways that contribute to an open, welcoming, diverse, inclusive, and healthy community. In particular, we pledge that a beginner asking a "silly" question is always welcome here — this chapter exists to bring people up the ladder, not to gatekeep it.
Examples of behavior that contributes to a positive environment:
- Being welcoming to newcomers. Remember that everyone was a first-year once. Answer the basic question kindly; do not respond with "just Google it" or "read the docs."
- Demonstrating empathy and kindness toward other people.
- Being respectful of differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.
- Giving and gracefully accepting constructive feedback — critique the code or the idea, never the person.
- Accepting responsibility, apologizing to those affected by our mistakes, and learning from them.
- Focusing on what is best not just for us as individuals, but for the overall community and the chapter's mission.
- Sharing credit generously. Name the people who did the work — setters, reviewers, volunteers.
Examples of unacceptable behavior:
- The use of sexualized language or imagery, and sexual attention or advances of any kind.
- Trolling, insulting or derogatory comments, and personal or political attacks.
- Public or private harassment.
- Publishing others' private information (physical or email address, SRN/PRN, phone number, etc.) without their explicit permission.
- Belittling someone for their skill level, branch, batch, or for asking a beginner question.
- Sustained disruption of events, contests, talks, or online discussions.
- Other conduct which could reasonably be considered inappropriate in a professional or academic setting.
Because we run a competitive programming platform, integrity is part of this Code — a leaderboard people cannot trust is worthless. The following are violations of this Code of Conduct:
- Cheating in contests or on the Problem of the Day — copying another person's solution, sharing your solution with others during a live contest, or using someone else's account.
- Sabotaging the judge — attempting to exfiltrate hidden test cases, break out of the code
sandbox, attack the leaderboard, or otherwise abuse the arena infrastructure. (Responsible security
disclosure is different and encouraged — see
CONTRIBUTING.md-> Reporting a Vulnerability.) - Plagiarism in editorials or problems — submitting problems, test data, or editorials that are copied from another source without permission and attribution.
- Impersonation — misrepresenting yourself as another member, an alum, or the core team.
Learning from editorials and discussing problems after a contest has ended is encouraged — that is how the ladder works. The line is drawn at dishonesty during live judging and at claiming others' work as your own.
This Code of Conduct applies within all chapter spaces, and also when an individual is officially representing the chapter in public spaces. Chapter spaces include, but are not limited to:
- This repository and all its issues, pull requests, discussions, and code review.
- The live platform (the CP Arena, leaderboard, profiles, and Newsroom).
- Chapter communication channels (Discord, WhatsApp, email, and any official group).
- In-person and online events, contests, workshops, and hackathons run by the chapter.
- Any use of an official chapter email address or social media account.
The chapter core team is responsible for clarifying and enforcing our standards of acceptable behavior and will take appropriate and fair corrective action in response to any behavior that they deem inappropriate, threatening, offensive, or harmful.
The core team has the right and responsibility to remove, edit, or reject comments, commits, code, issues, pull requests, and other contributions that are not aligned with this Code of Conduct, and will communicate reasons for moderation decisions when appropriate.
If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior — or have any other concerns — please report it. You do not need to be certain a violation occurred to report; if something felt wrong, tell us.

All reports will be reviewed and investigated promptly and fairly. The core team is obligated to respect the privacy and security of the reporter of any incident. Retaliation against anyone who reports in good faith is itself a serious violation of this Code.
When reporting, if you can, include: what happened, who was involved, when and where, any evidence (screenshots, links), and whether anyone else witnessed it. Even a partial report is useful.
The core team will follow these Community Impact Guidelines in determining the consequences for any action they deem in violation of this Code of Conduct:
Community Impact: Use of inappropriate language or other behavior deemed unprofessional or unwelcome. Consequence: A private, written warning from the core team, providing clarity around the nature of the violation and an explanation of why the behavior was inappropriate. A public apology may be requested.
Community Impact: A violation through a single incident or series of actions. Consequence: A warning with consequences for continued behavior. No interaction with the people involved, including unsolicited interaction with those enforcing the Code of Conduct, for a specified period of time. This includes avoiding interactions in community spaces as well as external channels. Violating these terms may lead to a temporary or permanent ban.
Community Impact: A serious violation of community standards, including sustained inappropriate behavior, or a first-time integrity violation such as cheating in a contest. Consequence: A temporary ban from any sort of interaction or public communication with the community for a specified period of time. No public or private interaction with the people involved is allowed during this period. This may include removal from the leaderboard, forfeiture of contest standings or rewards, and suspension of the platform account. Violating these terms may lead to a permanent ban.
Community Impact: Demonstrating a pattern of violation of community standards, sustained inappropriate behavior, harassment of an individual, aggression toward or disparagement of classes of individuals, or repeated integrity violations. Consequence: A permanent ban from any sort of public interaction within the community and the platform.
Consequences are applied at the reasonable discretion of the core team and may be escalated or adjusted based on severity and context. Matters involving university policy or safety may be referred to the appropriate PES University authorities.
